Macedonia known as ‘The Land of Lakes’, is truly one of the best kept secrets in the Balkans, and is often overlooked. This country has a rich and eventful history that can be appreciated still today.  This cultural heritage tour will take you to ancient cities, colorful bazaars, stone monasteries, impressive ruins and many more cultural treasures.


Tour itinerary

Day 1 Skopje

Meeting the group at the airport and transfer to the hotel in Skopje. Check in. Leisure time. Welcome dinner in a nice restaurant in Skopje (instead of dinner at hotel).

Day 2 Skopje

Breakfast. Departure for full day sightseeing of Skopje area. The tour also includes visit of the Matka canyon. Visit of the St.Andreja church, followed by boat trip to the Vrelo Cave (cca. 2 hours). Return to Skopje, with shot en-route stop at the monastery of St.Pantelejmon in Nerezi. Visit of the Turkish bazaar with the following amenities: Cifte Hammam / Daut Pasha Hamam / Feudal tower / Holy Saviour Church (Sv.Spas) / Kale Fortress / Kapan An / Kurshumli An / Stone Bridge. Optional lunch in the Turkish Bazaar (traditional Macedonian grilled meat – kebabchi). Then we move to the outskirts of Skopje to see the Skopje aqueduct and the roman ruins of Scupi. Dinner in restaurant with traditional setting in the Skopje area - Chardak. Return to hotel. 

Day 3 Ohrid

Breakfast. Check out. Transfer to Ohrid with en-route visits of Arabati Baba Teke to meet and drink tea with the last dervish (Arabati Baba Teke is magnificent dervish monastery founded by the turbe of Sersem Ali Baba, brother-in-law of the sultan Suleiman the Magnificent) and the monastery of St.Jovan Bigorski in the Debar area (one of most sacred places of Macedonia, famous for it's icons and wooden carved iconostasis, most beautiful in the region). Optional lunch can be served in the Mavrovo national park. If guests wish so, we can also make short stop in the village of Vevchani to visit the Vevchani springs. Arrival at hotel in Ohrid in the afternoon hours, followed by short walking tour of the old city amenities (Church of St. Sofia, Plaoshnik archaeological complex, Tsar Samuel’s fortress, the Ancient Theater, St. Jovan Kaneo). Free time to enjoy Ohrid. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4 Boat trip to Gradishte – St.Naum

Breakfast. Departure for full day boat trip to St. Naum Monastery (910 AD) with a short visit of the Museum on Water in Gradiste. Optional lunch is served in the restaurant Ostrovo at St.Naum. Return to hotel in early evening hours. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – Bitola – Prilep – Krushevo

Breakfast. Checkout and departure for Bitola. Short walking tour of Bitola (visit of the ancient city of Heraclea Lyncestis, the Museum of Pelagonia (optional), the church of St.Dimitrija). Optional lunch can be arranged in Shirok Sokak street. We continue for the city of Prilep in the afternoon hours, where we visit Marko’s Fortress and the female monastery of Varosh. Overnight takes place in Krushevo - highest city in the Balkans. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6 – Krushevo-Stobi-Veles

Breakfast and checkout. Sightseeing of Krusevo (Makedonium monument, Meckin Kamen, permanent exhibition of painting from Nikola Martinovski). Visit of old crafts workshops is possible in the Krusevo bazar. Also, we can arrange on-site lunch at Meckin Kamen, most famous landmark dedicated to Macedonian rebellion against the Ottoman Empire. Afternoon transfer to the ancient city of Stobi, Macedonia's most popular tourist attraction. Overnight takes place in the Demir Kapija wine region. Wine tasting dinner and overnight.

Day 7 – Tikvesh-Strumica-Shtip-Skopje

Breakfast. Transfer to Strumica. City tour of Strumica (Roman baths, Monastery of St.Leonthius), with the possibility to visit the most famous waterfalls of Macedonia in the villages of Smolare and Koleshino. En-route to Skopje we will pay visit of the city of Shtip (ancient city of Bargala, Bezisten), where guests have the opportunity to taste the pastrmajlija pie (unique for the Shtip area). Arrival in Skopje in the late afternoon hours. There will be time for guests to explore the city center of Skopje on their own. Farewell dinner is served in restaurant in the old bazar. 

Day 8 – Final day

Breakfast and checkout. Transfer to the Skopje airport. End of program.
