Tour 1

Tour 1 itinerary - Western Macedonia

Day 1: Skopje

Arrival at the Skopje's airport. Transfer to your hotel. A short introductory tour of the area round your hotel - getting useful hints from your tour guide. Sightseeing tour; Visit to the old railway station the first railway station in the Balkans; The statue of Mother Teresa; The Stone Bridge; The church of St. Spas (Holy Salvation), which is famous for housing the remains of the great Macedonian revolutionary Goce Delcev (1872-1903); The Fortress Kale; The Monastery of St. Pantelejmon in the village of Gorno Nerezi, which was built in the 12th century. Lunch in the restaurant next to the church of St. Pantelejmon. After lunch a visit to the Church of St. Andreja Matka, built in the 14th century. Dinner in a local restaurant with folk music. Overnight stay in Skopje.

Day 2: Mavrovo - Ohrid

After a relaxed breakfast a drive west to Mavrovo. A walking tour of Mavrovo National Park, which represents one of the most attractive tourist centers in Macedonia. In Mavrovo National Park and near it, there is the most famous village of Galichnik, then and the Monastery of Sveti Jovan Bigorski (St John the Baptist). The village of Galichnik lies in the heart of the Mount Bistra. It is a typical Macedonian village which is famous for many things but mostly for the national festival Galichka Svadba (Galichka Wedding). Some free time for a snack - before leaving for Ohrid. The tour in Ohrid starts in front of the statue of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, and it continues to the Lower gate, the National Museum of Ohrid, the Church of St Sophia, the Roman amphitheater, the Upper gate, St Clement's Church of the Holy Mother of God Most Glorious (Sveta Bogorodica Perivleptos), The Icon Gallery, Tsar Samoil's fortress, Plaoshnik, and it ends in a walk through Ohrid's marketplace. Dinner and overnight stay in Ohrid.

Day 3: Ohrid - Skopje

After breakfast - a visit to the beautiful and popular Monastery of St Naum with new inns built in the last decade. The original church of the Holy Archangels was built in the early 10th century by St Naum and later it housed the tomb and relics of St Naum himself. Today its remains are buried beneath the present 16th-century church. The source of the River Crn Drim which feeds the lake is nearby. After a short walking tour we will have lunch at one of the many restaurants with a lovely view of the lake. Afterwards a drive to Skopje. Dinner in a local restaurant with folk music. Overnight stay in Skopje.

Day 4: Skopje

Depending on the flight schedule, there is an option of visiting the Old Skopje Bazaar and the new market place. Transfer to the airport.

Tour 2

Tour 2 itinerary - Eastern Macedonia

Day 1: Skopje

Arrival at the Skopje’s Airport. Transfer to your hotel. Short introductory tour of the area round your hotel - getting useful hints from your tour guide. Sightseeing tour: A visit to the old railway station – the first railway station in the Balkans; The statue of Mother Teresa; The plaque marking the site of her former house; The Stone Bridge – a monumental construction in the center of the city; The church of St Spas (Holy Salvation), which was built at the end of the 17th century and which is famous for housing the remains of the great Macedonian revolutionary Goce Delcev (1872-1903); The Fortress Kale – an outstanding tourist attraction of Skopje; The Monastery Church of St Pantelejmon in the village of Gorno Nerezi, which was built in the 12th century and represents an important monument from the Byzantine period. Lunch in the restaurant next to the church of St Pantelejmon. After lunch a visit to the Church of St. Andreja – Matka, built in the 14th century. The frescoes painted on the walls of this church differ from any others by their stylistic and artistic qualities and their iconographic peculiarities. Dinner in a local restaurant with live folk music. Overnight stay in Skopje.

Day 2: Skopje – Kriva Palanka – Berovo

After breakfast – a drive to Kriva Palanka; on our way to Kriva Palanka, a visit to the Megalithic Observatory Kokino which is located about thirty kilometres northeast of Kumanovo. Then a visit to the Monastery Complex of St Joakim Osogovski in Kriva Palanka which consists of two monastery churches, the older one dedicated to the Virgin Mary (Sveta Bogorodica), and the newer one dedicated to St Joakim Osogovski himself. After that, a drive to Berovo and on our way to Berovo, a visit to the Lesnovo Monastery. After arrival in Berovo, dinner at a local restaurant and overnight stay in Berovo. 

Day 3: Berovo - Strumica – Skopje

In the morning; Mountain adventure on the Berovo Lake, then a drive to Strumica and a visit to the cultural and historic places of interest in the town of Strumica and its surroundings. A visit to the the monastery complex Vodocha which is located in the village of Vodocha. The legend about the etymology of the name of this place is linked to the day when in 1014 AD Tsar Samoil’s army was defeated by the army of the Byzantine Emperor Vasilij II and 15,000 Macedonian soldiers had their eyes gouged out afterwards. Because of this, the village got the name Vodocha (ochi = eyes). What follows next is a visit to the Monastery of the Holy Mother of God – Eleusa which is a convent now and is situated in the next village of Veljusa. The monastery church is significant because of its architectural layout, the 11th century frescoes, the preserved fragments of the mosaic floor, and the authentic marble iconostasis. Afterwards a visit to the Smolari Waterfall. Then a drive to Skopje and on our way to Skopje, a short visit to the ancient city of Stobi founded in the 3rd century BC. Dinner in a local restaurant with live folk music. Overnight stay in Skopje.

Day 4: Skopje

Depending on the flight schedule, there is an option of visiting the Old Skopje Bazaar and the new market place. Transfer to the airport. 

Tour 3

Tour 3 itinerary - Southwest Macedonia

Day 1 / Arrival in Skopje

Arrival at the Skopje airport. Transfer to your hotel. A short introductory tour of the area round your hotel - getting useful hints from your tour guide. Sightseeing tour; Visit to the old railway station; The statue of Mother Teresa; The Stone Bridge; The church of St. Spas (Holy Salvation), which is famous for housing one of the region’s most renowned wooden carved iconostasis; The Fortress Kale; monuments of Ottoman architecture in Skopje (Skopje Bazar, Mustapha Pasha mosque, etc.). Lunch in the Bazar (macedonian version of kebapci). After lunch a visit to the Matka Canyon, wonder of nature and most famous tourist attraction in the vicinity of Skopje. Welcome dinner in a local restaurant with traditional macedonian setting in the outskirts of Skopje. Overnight.

Day 2: Skopje – Bitola (via Prilep)

After a relaxed breakfast – a drive to Bitola. On our way to Bitola, a short visit to the ancient city of Stobi founded in the 3rd century BC. Then a sightseeing tour of the town of Prilep, important mediaval center of Macedonia, where we will visit king Marko’s towers, the Prilep Bazar. Lunch is provided in the Prilep bazar. Arrival in Bitola. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Bitola - Ohrid

After breakfast, sightseeing of the town - the main street “Sirok Sokak”, the Old Bazaar, the Clock Tower and a visit to the ancient Macedonian town of Heraclea Lyncestis, which is located 5km far from Bitola, and which was founded in the middle of the 4th century BC. We also pay visit of the museum of Bitola, which houses memorial room of the founder of modern Turkey – Kemal Ataturk. Lunch in a national restaurant in Shirok Sokak.

Afternoon transfer to Bitola via the Galicica National Park. We can also visit the town of Resen, which houses beautiful Ottoman building from 19th century. Upon arrival in Ohrid, we start touring with the Lower gate, the Church of St. Sophia, the Roman amphitheater, Tsar Samuil’s fortress, the Upper gate, Bogoroditsa Perivleptos church, Plaoshnik, and it ends in a short walk throught Ohrid’s pazar. Late check-in at hotel in Ohrid. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Ohrid - Skopje

Breakfast and checkout. If there's enough time, tahe guests can walk and enjoy the old city of Ohrid, do souvenir shopping etc. Transfer to Skopje airport. End of program.
